Becoming a HVACR Tech
What does a HVACR Tech or Steamfitter do?
HVACR Technicians diagnose and repair heating and cooling systems, install instrumentation, maintain systems, tubing and handle DDR systems. Steamfitters involve themselves with the rigging, setting, supporting, and piping of related equipment, valves and fittings. They search for leaks by performing pressure tests. They become adept at threading, welding, brazing, soldering, cementing as well as the fusion and mechanical joining of pipes.

Am I qualified?
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be able to physically perform the work required
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Must have a sincere interest in the trade
- Must have a good work ethic
- Have a general mechanical background
What can I expect while training?
- Program is approximately 5 years
- 572 hours of paid classroom training (HVACR Tech)
- 500 hours of paid classroom training (Steamfitter)
- On-the-job training with an experienced Journeyman
- Minimum of 8,000 hours of on the job training (HVACR Tech)
- Some travel may be required
